Postdoctoral fellow (Dept. of Medicine at Baylor, 1981-82) and clinical resident in Internal Medicine at the Dept. of Medicine of the University of Heidelberg, fellowship (Thyssen Foundation) and research grants from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). Successfully established collaboration with researchers at the German Cancer Research Center, the Department of Cell Biology at the EMBO Laboratory in Heidelberg, and The Dept. of Medicine at Baylor. Succesfully biochemically characterized and identified LDL receptors and scavenger receptors. Research activity resulted in 29 publications in high impact journals. Speaker and co-chairperson at international conferences.
Broad clinical experience by practicing medicine in all major divisions of the Clinical Center of Internal Medicine of the University of Heidelberg (cardiology, intensive care, endocrinology & metabolism, nephrology, oncology, gastroenterology). Specialist in Internal Medicine (1987) and  Sportsmedicine. Postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation, 1988). Since 1988 external member of the Faculty of Clinical Medicine of the University of Heidelberg. Adjunct Professor of Internal Medicine of the Faculty of Clinical Medicine of the University of Heidelberg (since 1997).

Recruited as Scientific Director for the Department of Atherosclerosis Research in 1987. Conducted strategic planning sessions and designed new research programs for preclinical development of novel drug candidates in various areas of Vascular Medicine (1987 - 1993). Succesfully executed research plan. Responsible for managing the development of a new program for high throughput screening and preclinical studies with new stable transfected cell lines and transgenic animals including ADME studies in animals. Close collaboration with the Divison of Chemistry of Boehringer Mannheim and several patent applications (BM 150639, BM 170249, BM 150733). Established broad network of academic opinion leaders and research pioneers in US and Europe (University of California, Division of Endocrinology, University of Edmonton, Dept of Biochemistry, and Dept of Cell Biology, Baylor College of Medicine). Responsible for implementation of research plan and building up a new research group in the area of bone metabolism with a focus on preclinical animal studies for evaluation of bisphosphonates (1989 - 1991). Full and direct responsibility to build up the new preclinical R&D division in Molecular Pharmacology(1991 - 1993). Responsible for developing a new research strategy and networking with external experts at the University of Innsbruck, Dept of Human Genetics, at the University of Vienna, Dept of Genetics and researchers at the University of Milan.

Recruited as General Manager. Full responsibility from the beginning for restructuring the company. Conducted all the strategic planning for growth and development. Marketing Business Unit Managers, Logistics Manager, Customer Service, Technical Service, Sales Administration, Financial Administration, OC and QS Manager, Production Manager, R&D Project Manager reported to this position. Designed new laboratories for manufacturing monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins and recombinant viruses, e.g. development and production of AAV and Ad vectors(1996). Succesfully negotiated technology transfer with research partners at academic institutions and major diagnostic partners such as ROCHE, CENTOCOR, and BAYER (development of reagents and novel diagnostic tests such cardiac markers, cytokeratins as tumor markers). Acquisition of the Elisa-segment of the former IMMUNO GmbH from the BAXTER GmbH Deutschland (1999). Established R&D, production, marketing & sales unit for diagnostic tests, research reagents and services. Established distribution network in Europe, US and Japan. Prepared strategic plan and managed implementation and development of three M & S business units for patient near-testing and patient self-testing diagnostics, ELISA Lab Diagnostics and Reagents for Biomedical Research (2000). Succesfully negotiated distribution agreements with major suppliers of the diagnostic industry. Patient-near testing: Established distribution organisation for AXIS-SHIELD NycoCard and Afinion in Germany and France (2001), for QUIDEL (2003), and 77Elektronika´s GLUCOTALK, a novel glucometer (2005), active sales focus in Diabetes and Vascular Medicine. General Manager of PROGEN Biotechnique S.A.R.L. since 2005. Lab diagnostics: Redesign of Hanta ELISA tests 1995/96. Acquisition of IMMUNO Elisa Test from Immuno (1999). Distribution partner of MULTIMETRIX. Launch of the Lx-100 Analyzer (2001), successful launch of Multimetrix multiplex tests for Lyme disease (2004), Hanta virus infection(2007), TBE-infection (2006) for the Luminex Analyzer, distribution partner of ZEUS Scientific´s Luminex tests for various infectious and autoimmune diseases (2003).
PROGEN was acquired by the BioMed Beteiligungsgesellschaft GmbH in 04/2007 and contributed in kind to the November AG holding 19/11/2007.

Cofounder of this start-up venture (2000) and Scientific Advisor of Multimetrix GmbH (2001), the first company in Germany developing multiplex testing on the LUMINEX platform. Established business plan, business development plan, product development plan for this start up. Identified the proper customer base for the first LUMINEX instruments in research laboratories and diagnostic laboratories. Designed the distribution partnership with PROGEN (2001). Development of Luminex arrays for serology. Launch of Multimetrix HPV DNA array for detection of 29 subtypes of HPV (2006). Luminex test development service and manufacturing on demand for customers in the pharmaceutical industry.
